Carmen Hernandez Center For Life

Carmen was born in Olvega, Spain on 24th of November 1930 and spent her childhood in Tudela. She felt the call to be a missionary from an early age, influenced by the spirit of St Francis Xavier. She graduated in chemistry from the University of Madrid. For some years she was a member of the Instituto Misioneras de Cristo Jesus and studied theology in Valencia. In 1964 she joined Kiko Arguello in the shanty town of Palomeras Altas in Madrid. While announcing the Gospel to the poor amoung whom they lived, the Lord led them to a theological-catechetical synthesis founded on the Word of God, the Liturgy and the Community. This became the basis of the Neocatechumenal Way, whose Statute was approved by the Holy See in 2008. The Archbishop of Madrid at the time, his Grace Casimiro Moricillo, encouraged them to introduce this itinerary of Christian initiation in the parishes. For more than 50 years, together with Kiko Arguello, Carmen gave her life to announcing the Gospel throughout the world. She had an immense love for Jesus Christ, the Church, the Virgin Mary, the Pope, the Liturgy, Sacred Scripture and the Jewish roots of Christianity. She died in Madrid on 19th July 2016.

Carmen nacio en Olvega a 24 de Noviembre 1930 y vivió su infancia en Tudela. Ella sintió una llamada a ser una misionera desde muy pequena, con la influencia del spirito de Santo Francisco Xavier. Ella se graduó en química del la Universidad de Madrid. Por algunos anos ella fue miembro de el Instituto Misioneras de Cristo Jesus y estudio theologia en Valencia. En 1964, se unio con Kiko Arguello en las chabolas de Palomeras Altas en Madrid. Mientras annuciaban el Evangelio a los pobres entre quines vivían, el Senor los guió a una síntesis teológico-catequética fundada en la Palabra de Dios, la Liturgia y la Communidad. Esto se convirtió en la base del Camino Neocatecumenal, cuyo Estatuto fue aprobado por la Santa Sede en 2008. El Arzobispo de Madrid en el momento, Su Gracia Casimiro Moricillo, les animó a introducir este itinerario de iniciación cristiana a las parroquias. Durante mas de 50 años, junto con Kiko Arguello, Carmen dio su vida para anunciar el Evangelio en todo el mundo. Ella tenia un amor inmenso por Jesu Cristo, la Iglesia , La Virgen Maria, el Papa, la Liturgia, la Sagrada Escritura y las raíces Judías del Cristianismo. Ella murió en Madrid el 19 de Julio de 2016.
